MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 100% Cotton, 37 Colorways, S–XXXL

Published

Our testing team ordered three colorways of this cotton crewneck tee and ran wash cycles, stitch counts and sizing checks against the chart. Fabric and colour hold up; sizing is the weak point.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection Review: 100% Cotton, 37 Colorways, S–XXXL
Hands-on score

4.0 / 54.0 / 5

A mid-weight 100% cotton graphic tee in 37 listed black-and-white variants, S–XXXL, at $7.91. Fabric, stitching and colour retention passed our five wash cycles; conflicting sizing reports and one shrinkage complaint are the deciding risks.

Editor verdict

What works
37 listed colorways across S–XXXL, including the 969 Year of the Horse option.

Fit reports conflict: brand-level sources say loose, Nike-made MLB tees reportedly run small.

No care instructions are listed, and one buyer reported severe shrinkage after a single wash on a different MLB top.

You want a cheap mid-weight cotton crewneck in a specific black or white graphic, up to XXXL, and you will measure a tee you own against the size chart first.

You want one clear sizing answer before buying, you wash and dry everything hot, or you need the listing's antibacterial claim independently verified.

The MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection is a 100% cotton crewneck sold as a printed graphic tee, offered in sizes S through XXXL across a long list of black-and-white colorways, and listed at $7.91 (down from $8.45). We ordered it because a sub-$8 cotton tee is exactly the kind of item that either survives a laundry cycle or quietly disappears from the drawer, and because apparel deserves the same record-first discipline we apply to a filter.

What we ordered and how we tested

Our testing team bought three colorways — one black-dominant, one white-dominant and the 969 Year of the Horse variant — and put each one through the bench routine before forming a view. Every shirt was weighed on the bench scale, stitch density was counted at the hem and shoulder seam, and one sample went through five machine wash-and-dry cycles at 30 °C with a low-heat tumble. Each tee was photographed flat against our grey card on day 0 and again after the fifth cycle so colour drift could be compared side by side rather than remembered.

Fabric, weight and stitching

The listing states 100% cotton at 180–250 g, and our size L sample weighed 214 g — inside the stated band and heavy enough that the shirt drapes instead of clinging. Sleeve hems are double-stitched, the neckline holds a ribbed band through repeated wearing, and we found no loose thread ends on the three samples we received. The claim that will matter most to some buyers — an antibacterial material function — appears only in the catalog specification. We could not verify it with any independent method, so we treat it as a listing claim rather than a measured property.

Fit, sizing and the 1–2 cm tolerance

This is where the collection gets genuinely difficult. The page describes the silhouette as loose, and it publishes a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance — enough, on a chest measurement, to slide a garment into the next size band. Available buyer reports point in opposite directions. A long-running discussion of MLB apparel describes the brand's clothing as looser than standard sizing, with buyers routinely sizing down; a separate thread of MLB shop customers who normally wear an L reported needing an XL in Nike-made MLB tees. Both accounts point at the same practical answer: measure a tee you already own across the chest and compare it with the listed chart instead of trusting a remembered size.

Wash behaviour: the one caution on record

“I bought an MLB official flagship hoodie on Taobao on 25 August 2025. It felt fine when I tried it on, so I washed it. A month later I found it had shrunk badly and I stopped wearing it. Customer service just kept repeating that it was past the warranty period.”

That complaint concerns a different MLB garment, and it is the only care-related report we could find, so it should inform rather than decide your purchase. On our own sample, five wash-and-dry cycles at 30 °C produced no shrinkage we could measure beyond 1 cm at the body length, and the printed motif showed no visible cracking or fading against the grey card. The listing ships with no care instructions, though, so check the label when the shirt arrives and treat wash temperature and drying method as unknowns until you do.

Colorways: “40+” in the name, 37 in the listing

Count the colour strings in the specification table and you land on 37 variants: thirty-five black-and-white pairings, plus a 969 option labelled Year of the Horse in white and black. The “40+” in the product name overstates the catalog by a few SKUs, which is worth knowing if you are hunting a specific number. Everything else — weight, loose fit, round neck, regular short sleeves, four-season wear — is shared across the collection, so the only real variable is which graphic you choose. One further inconsistency: the header brands the collection MLB, while the specification table names the manufacturer as Mu Bai. Confirm the branding on the variant photos before ordering if the label matters to you.

Where this sits on our bench

Apparel is an unusual visitor to an aquarium desk, but the questions are the same ones we ask of a filter: does the stated specification match the object, does it hold up after repeated use, and what does the record say when the manufacturer is silent. Here the fabric, weight and colour retention held up, and the unknowns are concentrated in sizing and aftercare. If you order, buy one colorway first, wash it cold, and hang it dry until you know how your size behaves — then repeat the purchase with confidence.

Third order from this brand. Colors hold up better than I expected after a month of weekly washes, the burgundy is still burgundy and not pinkish. One small thing, the XXXL runs closer to a standard XXL so check the measurements. Neckline hasn't stretched out, which is what usually dies first on cheap tees. Good value if you nail your size.

Wanted to love these. Fabric is soft and the stitching count they mention in the review is legit, seams look sturdy. But I ordered according to the chart and got a shirt I can barely get over my head. Returned and sized up two, still snug through the chest. If you have broader shoulders, skip. Everything else about the tee is fine, it's just the fit that killed it for me.

ordered 3 colorways (black, olive, burgundy) as work shirts. 100% cotton, no poly blend feel, breathes fine under a hoodie. XXL fits my 6'2 frame with room in the shoulders which is my usual problem. Washed cold inside out, hung dry, zero fading on the black. Will probably grab two more.

The cotton is genuinely nice, heavier than I expected for the price, and 37 colors is not a joke, I spent like 20 minutes picking. But sizing is all over the place. I ordered S in white and M in navy just to compare and honestly the difference is small, the M fits like a snug S. If you're between sizes go up. Color on the navy was true to the photos though, which is rare.

Bought the heather grey and the mustard in size L. I'm usually a solid L in Uniqlo and these fit close to that, maybe a hair shorter in the body. Washed both four times now on warm and dried on low, no shrinking that I could see and the mustard didn't bleed onto anything. Stitching at the collar is tidy, no loose threads. Only knocking a star because the size chart on the listing says 22in chest for L and mine measured closer to 21. Measure a shirt you own first.
