About fishgoo
fishgoo started in 2019 in a spare bedroom in Portland, Oregon, when Nora Whitfield got tired of aquarium filter reviews that never mentioned ammonia spikes. She bought a 40-gallon breeder tank, a canister filter and a data logger, and wrote up what actually happened in the water. That first test, 14 days of daily ammonia and nitrite readings, became the template for everything we publish.
Today fishgoo is a three-person editorial desk. Nora Whitfield is Editor-in-Chief. Priya Raman is Reviews Editor and runs the feeding trials. Elias Brandt is Research Editor and keeps the measurement gear honest. We are based in Portland, Oregon. We buy the products we feature at retail, we run them in our own tanks, and we publish scores on a five-point scale.
We cover freshwater aquariums, fish foods, filters, heaters, lighting, water conditioners, test kits and the everyday gear that keeps a tank stable. We are not a forum and we do not sell livestock. Our job is to order a product, live with it for a set test window, write down what we measured, and tell you which tanks it fits.
Aquarium conditions matter
Our freshwater equipment and fish-food coverage connects a result with its tank, species and water conditions. Flow loss, temperature stability and feeding observations answer different questions, so our comparisons keep those measurements separate.
